With Tomcat 7 an administrator can expect several improved features including memory optimization, refactored clustering, and increased security options. These enhancements will benefit both server administrators and website owners with quicker response time and security measures for Java applications.

Tomcat 7 has many updates including, but not limited to:

– Several Patches from Apache for Tomcat 7

Tomcat 7 Patches

– Simplified Library Structure

– Support for Java 6 and 7

– JSP 2.2

– JSP 2.2 Expression Language Specifications

– Servlet 3.0 (Supports Asynchronous Servlets)

– Protection against Cross-Site Request Forgery (CRFS) Attacks

– Simplified XML and Cookie Validation

We’re hoping to gather your thoughts, concerns, questions, comments, hopes and dreams, and while we’re better equipped to answer your EasyApache and Tomcat questions and concerns, we’ll try our best for all the rest.

We understand that some Tomcat 5.5 installations have evolved into unique setups in EasyApache. We are keeping that in mind when introducing Tomcat 7 to EasyApache, and it will be invaluable to hear your stories about how you currently use Tomcat 5.5. This will help the EasyApache team during our development and testing of Tomcat 7.

    Hi Demian,

Thank you for all the wonderful questions.

The servlets used in Tomcat 5.5 will be able to be used in Tomcat 7. Please be aware that because of the very specific changes that can be made to Java apps by administrators some adjustments may be necessary on your end after the upgrade from 5.5 to 7.

Please let us know if you have any additional questions about Tomcat 7.

    Hi Spase,

The EasyApache team is working to complete Tomcat 7 and we’re anticipating a release here in the near future.

    Hi Justin,

Tomcat 7 will require cPanel&WHM 11.38 and will be released in the near future. The EasyApache team will post a new blog, forum post and press release when Tomcat 7 is available.

Now, cPanel is manage backups or restores account perfect, but without servlets configuration files. If i did a backup through cPanel for an servlet account, i’ll expect this account can be restored without problem of the servlet configuration.

Considered important if an account are using an JNDI or context customized in the account servlet.

Remember too the directory of tomcat server is share all library to all accounts using servlets, is very importat.

So, i think is very important here is the a good tools for backup and restore account with servlets. Then too an tool can do java and tomcat updates.

I hope this recomendation can successfully help you.

  13. My God … there is hope … building /etc/rc.d/init.d/tomcat scripts isn’t really something I consider … enjoyable …. 😉

Hello, Jean-Francois. We are doing our best to make the transition as seamless as possible. The EasyApache team is interested in learning about user customizations in Tomcat configuration files. If you are interested in providing you configuration files, please let me know. We can use that information during our testing to improve the migrations from Tomcat 5.5 to Tomcat 7.

Can we hope for a seamless migration from 5.5 to 7? Or is the technology different in ways that simply upgrading Tomcat isn’t possible?
