December 2017 Development Update

Between the cPanel conference, releasing cPanel & WHM Version 68 and building version 70, we’ve done a whole lot since our last Development Update! We’ve had a ton of blog posts covering a lot of the new and exciting things that came with version 68 already. Let’s talk about version 70, and some of the other stuff coming down the pipeline. v70 If you’ve started to take a look at version 70, you’ll likely notice that there’s a …

Kernel-based symlink protection for all, thanks to CloudLinux

For many years web hosts have fought to provide adequate protection against a vulnerability called a “Symlink Attack”. At cPanel we prefer a kernel-based solution, and have historically provided both Apache based protection, and our Hardened Kernel to help server administrators. Last year we began discussing with CloudLinux the potential for them to offer this protection to server administrators as part of KernelCare. A few weeks ago …

Supercharge Your Plugin at cPanel Conference 2017

Quick note from benny: We’re keeping an eye on the situation as Fort Lauderdale recovers from Hurricane Irma. We’ll continue to communicate when we have information, and will be updating the post that I made on Monday about it. Now, I hand it over to Dustin…. cPanel Integrators. I’ve got a bone to pick with you about your plugins. I’m a UI developer, and this year I went to O’Reilly …

What the duck? A/B Testing at #cPConf 2017

You know that feeling of relief you get when you finish a big marketing project? You did everything right, the bosses seem satisfied, and you feel like you can kick back and relax. I remember that feeling, as it lulled me into a false sense of security. Everything seemed great, I had sorted out all of our problems, and everyone treated me like I was the company rock star. Until six months later… The honeymoon …

August 2017 Development Update

This month we spent mostly fixing bugs in version 66 and rounding out what we’re going to be able to complete in version 68. Version 66 Version 66 has rolled out to more than half of the licenses on the RELEASE tier, and is anticipated to enter the STABLE tier as soon as September 6th (If you’re not sure what the tiers are, you can read about them here). There are a lot of factors that …

Girls in ICT at Baker College

Every year cPanel shows our support for STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) education in a bunch of different ways, but we don’t often talk about it. It’s incredibly important to us that we help get young people involved in technology early, and we recognize that everyone isn’t presented with the same opportunities. Besides, who can resist the delight of a child who’s learned something new? Last week I had the pleasure of meeting 60 …

A WEIRED Recap: cPanel Conference 2016

Things got WIRED, things got WEIRD, and now another cPanel Conference is in the books! On October 3, cPanel’s developers, marketers, security professionals, and hosting thought leaders flew out to Portland for our signature conference. Hosted in a city known for its ‘weird’ culture, we made sure that we didn’t skip a beat when it came to bringing as much of the quirkiness of Stumptown into our event. Each day the exhibit floor was filled …

Platinum Satisfaction Guaranteed

In the technology sphere, many of us typify the 90s and early 2000s as the age of the internet boom. The dotcom bonanza that swept the globe during this time, which gave birth to such things as AOL and Napster, also spawned what was the congruent rise for web hosting and the need for server management. Among those at the helm of the hosting movement were John and Ethan, founders of Platinum …
