WHM Frames Have Left the Building

Though we have mentioned the motion a couple times before, we wanted to post a quick note for everyone now that we’re getting close to releasing cPanel & WHM Version 66 to our CURRENT tier and beyond. Frameless WHM has arrived! In v66, we have finally achieved our goal of removing the FRAMEs that separate the left-navigation area and top header areas of WHM from it’s main content area. This completes a goal we started …

What’s going on in WHM?

Hi Everyone, Adam here. I wanted to spend some time spelling out what’s going on in the user experience of cPanel & WHM. Plugin developers should pay close attention to the changes we’re making. Now that we’ve fully deprecated the X3 theme, it’s time to turn our attention to WHM. We’ve got some very simple goals when it comes to WHM: Ensure a great experience for our advanced users Assist first-time users who come to …

I just want a site

While talking with our partners one day, one of them said something that other users and partners confirmed repeatedly: “Customers close down their accounts for a few reasons”, the partner reported, “but the biggest one is that they just simply never got started.” They. Never. Got. Started. For many end users, they simply want to get online. Installing and managing WordPress, Drupal, or other content management systems vastly over-serves this demographic. They have very simple …

Updated deprecation schedule for X3

Back in September 2015, we announced the impending deprecation of X3, the previous generation user interface for cPanel. Since doing so we’ve seen adoption of Paper Lantern sky-rocket. After significant feedback from our customers and stakeholders we’re revising the deprecation schedule. Originally we said that we would stop shipping the X3 theme with v58, but in our development planning meeting yesterday we decided to delay that to v60, which is a delay of 4 months …

The new cPanel Sidebar in v54

One of the most prominent things that you will notice in cPanel & WHM v54’s end user interface is the addition of the new Sidebar. With v54, we’ve broken up and reorganized the interface into major areas. The Sidebar is available on every page and surfaces the new and exciting features we’ve been adding from around the product. These are not the applications that you’ll find …

It’s time to say goodbye to X3

Over the past year, we’ve talked prominently about the impending deprecation of X3, the previous generation user interface for cPanel. Today’s the day we are officially announcing a deprecation schedule and its eventual removal from the product. Here’s the schedule: In 11.52… Brand new installations of cPanel & WHM will consider Paper Lantern to be the default theme for all new accounts. Already existing installations of cPanel & WHM will not be affected. If you …

Retiring the Live Locale Editor

In 11.52, we are removing the Live Locale Editor in WHM. We realize removal of features from cPanel & WHM can be scary and can cause confusion so here are two important things you need to know about the Live Locale Editor’s removal: First, some background. In 11.46, we introduced new and updated translations for 29 languages used around the world. As a result, more people can now manage their hosting account in their preferred …

What makes a great feature request

Would you like to influence where we go next with cPanel & WHM? Consider participating in our feature request site. Here are some things to keep in mind when you submit the next great idea for the industry’s leading control panel. Make sure that it’s actually a feature request. It might be better as a tech support request. Does your idea restore a feature to full working order? If so, that’s a problem and needs …

Tweak to installation scripts for plugin developers

Just a heads up for cPanel Plugin Developers out there:  11.50 has hit the release tier. It includes a small tweak to how the plugin installation script behaves that you should know about. As we move farther and farther away from X3, the legacy user interface for cPanel, the plugin installation scripts will now install your plugins directly into Paper Lantern by default. In order to specify that you would like it install into X3, make …

Upgrading to Paper Lantern

If you missed it, we debuted a new look for the cPanel brand at WHD.Global in Rust Germany.  The new look is sleek, futuristic, and now personifies our focus on building the hosting platform of choice for the web hosting industry. …
